“Captured bi-Cycling” photo competition

As we ride, we are exposed to so much beautiful and powerful imagery – whether it’s the scenery, the small gaps in traffic to weeve through, some one else riding past you or just you feeling free on your bike.  We are asking you to capture some of this beauty bi camera and enter the UNSW Bike Club “Captured bi-cycling” photo competition. The theme is “the beauty of your bike ride” and entries should be inspired by your ride to UNSW.

For your efforts, there will be some amazing prizes on offer including a bike from Europa Cyclery, panniers from Gazelle Cyclery, helmets from Nutcase and a bicycle tour from Electric Velocity – so get snapping.

Entries should be submitted before 17th September by email to events(at)unswbikeclub.org.au.  Before entering you must read the terms and conditions.  You will also need to fill out a Model release form for any people featured in your photographs.

Happy Cycling and Best of Luck!!!!

Randwick council's free workshops

Randwick City Council is offering one-day bike mechanics courses every month, starting on Saturday 10th April.

They’re also running cycling skills courses from 23rd May, at the Des Renford Aquatic Centre.

You’ll get to know your bike, learn how to fix a flat tyre and the basics of maintaining your gears and brakes.

A refundable $20 deposit is required to book your place, which you’ll get back in cash when you attend the course.

Participants need to bring their bike to the Randwick Community Centre by 9am and the course runs until approximately 1pm.

Tools will be supplied, but if you already own your own set of Allen keys, tyre levers, pump, lubricant or any other basic tools, bring them along!

Each course is limited to 8 people, so be quick!

To book, call the Randwick City Council call centre on 1300 722 542, or if you would like more information on upcoming course dates, please call Randwick Council’s Sustainable Transport Officer on 9399 0934.

Can you help fix bikes this Friday?

Our bike loan scheme is about to start, but the bikes need a bit of a tune-up before they can get loaned out.

Can you help out for an hour or two? We’ll be fixing them up from 10am-4pm this Friday. If you’re free, please email bike-email. No bike fixing knowledge necessary!

Bike loans: applications open

The Bike Club is starting up a bike loan scheme for UNSW students, in early September. The idea is that you pay us a deposit, we give you a bike/helmet/lock/lights, and we charge a low monthly fee. For more information, and to download the application form, click here.
